Fence Installation

7 Things to Know Before Your New Fence Installation

Spring is here, and with it, the perfect time for a new fence for your Cincinnati property. If you’re planning to hire Amerifence to handle a fence installation from start to finish, you’ve made a great choice! Whether we’re installing a cedar, vinyl, or aluminum fence, this article will walk you through the seven steps of what you need to do to prepare for a seamless installation.

1. Review the Contract

The first step in preparing for a new fence is thoroughly reading through the contract. Pay special attention to the section on customer responsibilities. This is where you'll find everything you need to know before the Amerifence team arrives.

2. Identify and Mark Private Utilities

Next, identify and mark all private utilities. While we'll handle public utilities like cable, phone, gas, electric, water, and sewer, it’s your responsibility to mark the private utilities. This includes sump lines, sprinkler lines, invisible fence lines, private electric, and private gas lines.

3. Provide a Legal Survey or Plot Plan

It's important to install the fence on the correct part of your property. That's why we request that you get the legal survey or plot plan that outlines your property boundaries. This documentation can help avoid property disputes with neighbors.

4. Obtain Necessary Permits and HOA Approvals

Check whether you need a permit for your new fence installation. You can usually get this from your local government office. Also, if you live in a community with a Homeowners Association (HOA), make sure to get their approval. HOAs often have specific regulations regarding fence styles and heights.

5. Clear the Fence Line

Remove any obstructions along the proposed fence line. This includes firewood stacks or any objects connected to your existing fence. Clearing the area gives the installation team a chance to work as efficiently as possible.

6. Secure Climbing Plants and Pets

Unhook and safely store any climbing plants and lattices that are attached to your fence. This can help prevent potential damage to your plants and give us full access to the area.

We also request that all pets be safely confined. That way, they won't interfere with the installation and will remain away from potential hazards.

7. Be Present During the Initial Setup

It’s important that homeowners are available for the first 30-45 minutes on the day of installation, usually between 8:30 and 10 a.m. Being present allows you to walk the property with the team leader, discuss any concerns, and go over the details of the boundary survey and utility locations. This is a practical way to make sure everything aligns with your expectations.

By following these steps, you can rest assured that your new fence installation will go as smoothly as possible. Whether you’re in Cincinnati, Loveland, West Chester, Montgomery, or Kenwood, Amerifence is here to help you every step of the way. Contact us at (513) 845-3977 or request a free quote online today!
